How we train

Our Method

We don't teach random techniques or move collections. We teach using the Constraints-Led Approach (CLA) — teaching through tasks so you understand real cause and effect along with simple, transferable concepts. Deliberate skill development is achieved through principle-based learning, using modern, up-to-date scientific teaching methods for the grappling arts. Each session is consistent, focused, and direct — designed to build understanding, improve decision-making, and support long-term progression. We are building BJJ problem solvers who can adapt to any situation.

01

Task-based learning

We teach through tasks, not memorized move collections — so you understand real cause and effect and can adapt under live resistance.

02

Structured curriculum

Clear structure and high standards — not random technique-of-the-day instruction. Every class builds toward long-term progress.

03

Problem solving is king

We develop practitioners who can solve problems on the mat, not just repeat patterns. Consistency beats intensity.

My kids have already learned so much. The best part is we don't have to convince them to go to class — they want to go. The coach and his partner are wonderful people, and it honestly feels like family.

I've been training at Ann Arbor BJJ since opening day and have been fortunate to train with the head coach for around two years. During that time, I've made tremendous improvements in my skills, but more importantly, I've found an incredible community.

Been training here since the start of this semester and it's been awesome! Perfect location for students and very competitively priced for BJJ in AA. Royce is a great teacher and I appreciate his approach to teaching.
