Structured classes for all experience levels. Morning, midday, evening, and weekend classes 7 days per week. Live work through task-focused training every class to build real skill.

A safe, structured environment building confidence, coordination, focus, and problem-solving skills. Task-based learning keeps kids engaged while we introduce the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Structured training built around developing problem solvers through the Constraints-Led Approach. Live, task-focused skill building — designed with the sport of BJJ in mind.

Built for athletes who want to compete in the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. A holistic approach that meets you where you are — competing is its own skill, and this program specializes in developing it.
We don't teach random techniques or move collections. We teach using the Constraints-Led Approach (CLA) — teaching through tasks so you understand real cause and effect along with simple, transferable concepts. Deliberate skill development is achieved through principle-based learning, using modern, up-to-date scientific teaching methods for the grappling arts. Each session is consistent, focused, and direct — designed to build understanding, improve decision-making, and support long-term progression. We are building BJJ problem solvers who can adapt to any situation.
We teach through tasks, not memorized move collections — so you understand real cause and effect and can adapt under live resistance.
Clear structure and high standards — not random technique-of-the-day instruction. Every class builds toward long-term progress.
We develop practitioners who can solve problems on the mat, not just repeat patterns. Consistency beats intensity.

Everything is intentional, from class design to the 2-inch Dollamur mats and professional subfloor. A coach who invests in how you learn
At Ann Arbor BJJ, our coaches are serious about being the best they can be — so they've joined a community of forward-thinking coaches, led by Greg Souders, who train with the constraints-led approach: a modern, games-based method grounded in motor-learning science. You learn by solving real problems on the mat — and build skill faster.

Head coach and founder of Ann Arbor BJJ. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Margot Ciccarelli, Royce coaches every class personally with clear instruction, focused rounds, and high standards — while keeping a professional, respectful, ego-free training environment. His philosophy: consistency beats intensity, task-based learning beats memorization, problem solving is king, and culture matters.

This place is awesome! Coach Royce is very knowledgeable and is able to accommodate different experience levels and training backgrounds. The gym has a really cool, modern atmosphere — I would definitely recommend this place.
Comprehensive instruction, well-maintained and modern facility, and a great training environment. I can't recommend this gym enough.
My kids have already learned so much. The best part is we don't have to convince them to go to class — they want to go. The coach and his partner are wonderful people, and it honestly feels like family.
I've been training at Ann Arbor BJJ since opening day and have been fortunate to train with the head coach for around two years. During that time, I've made tremendous improvements in my skills, but more importantly, I've found an incredible community.
In short: innovative & excellent BJJ instruction and supportive community. Good location for students and fellows living close to the area.
Been training here since the start of this semester and it's been awesome! Perfect location for students and very competitively priced for BJJ in AA. Royce is a great teacher and I appreciate his approach to teaching.
The space is very well equipped and clean, with a modern vibe. Sessions at 6am, noon, and evenings — every day of the week. Classes are fun and challenging with a great range of training partners. Great find!
My daughter (11 yr old) has been training under coach Royce for 3 years. Without a doubt the best bang for the buck — flexible hours, unlimited training, weight room, modern training style.
Extremely welcoming environment, for any level. I've enjoyed learning and hanging out with everyone, from coaches to fellow students!
