Our main class. For the beginner to the experienced — explore the vast depths of BJJ in a completely live environment, with open rounds of sparring at the end.

A dedicated, constantly rotating 8-week program where you learn the basics and fundamentals of the art — movements, positions, escapes and attacks — in a safe, fun setting.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for kids and teens, split by age group: Littles (4–7yrs), Mids (7–11yrs) and Teens (11–15yrs). Gi and No-Gi classes across the week.

A dedicated session for our female members to train together. Everyone trains together at Balance, but we see great value in our women getting time on the mat as a team.

A higher-intensity early-morning session for our more experienced and competitive members. Runs Monday and Friday at 5:00 AM.

Unstructured training time to drill what you're working on, get your rounds in and test your game. Mornings and most evenings through the week.
We use modern, science-backed coaching methods grounded in the conceptual framework of Ecological Dynamics. Our primary method is the Constraint Led Approach (CLA), and all of our practice sessions are 100% live work. We believe training against full resistance builds the most versatile, adaptable and well-rounded grapplers.
Instead of repeating moves in a vacuum, the game of jiu-jitsu is broken into slices and learners are given a range of problems to solve against a resisting partner — 100% of the time.
A game-based, adaptive method drawn from Ecological Dynamics. You discover what works for your body, against resistance, from day one — so your skills hold up when you roll.
Head Coach Gino emphasises that the difference between a coach and an instructor is huge. Every session is designed around your individual skill acquisition, not a fixed curriculum.
Constraint Led Approach · Ecological Dynamics
Balance BJJ is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and self-defence academy in North Lakes, QLD, where everyone — from complete beginners to seasoned competitors — trains together as a community. We use modern, science-backed coaching methods built on the framework of Ecological Dynamics, with the Constraint Led Approach (CLA) at the core of every session. Our promise is simple: solid, consistent and effective teaching in a welcoming environment that promotes inclusion, encouragement and growth. We train in both Gi and No-Gi, with dedicated programs for adults, kids (4y+), women, and beginners. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu isn't easy — but neither is life. At Balance we want to help you discover strength, resilience and confidence through BJJ, not just for the mats, but for every aspect of life.
A coach who invests in how you learn
At Balance BJJ, our coaches are serious about being the best they can be — so they've joined a community of forward-thinking coaches, led by Greg Souders, who train with the constraints-led approach: a modern, games-based method grounded in motor-learning science. You learn by solving real problems on the mat — and build skill faster.

Head Coach & Co-Owner. Gino began training MMA in 2009 but fell in love with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instead. He brings years of community work and a construction background to his coaching, and believes the difference between being a coach and an instructor is huge. He builds every session around the Constraint Led Approach and Ecological Dynamics, focused on each student's individual skill acquisition.

Kids Coach & Women's Only Coach. With nearly 20 years in Pilates and Yoga, Steph discovered BJJ as a way to challenge herself mentally while maintaining physical strength. She focuses on injury prevention and recovery so students can stay on the mats as much as possible, for as long as possible.

Coach. Joel has dedicated years to developing his understanding of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the unique blend of physical and mental challenges it offers. He creates a supportive environment where students learn fundamentals, strategic thinking and adaptability.

Judo for BJJ Coach & BJJ Coach. Involved in martial arts since 2000, Jules started Judo and BJJ in 2015 and has competed across Australia, Europe and Asia. He focused on Judo to master the fundamentals of the standing position, and now shares that stand-up knowledge with Balance members.

BJJ & Kids Coach (Cert III & IV in Fitness). Since 2021, Ryan has coached both fitness and BJJ. After his own personal transformation, he leans on discipline and consistency to help others reach their goals.

BJJ & Kids Coach (Cert III & IV in Fitness). Hunter began training BJJ three years ago in Victoria before joining Balance at its opening. His motto: "It is what it is."
