Hook Grappling has adopted a constraints-led approach (CLA) to grappling. Instead of standing in line drilling fixed sequences, students play the game of Jiu Jitsu for the whole class — solving real problems against live, adaptive resistance from day one. Skill built this way actually shows up when you roll.
Less repetitive drilling, more live problem-solving — you train the real game of Jiu Jitsu every session.
From complete beginner to advanced player, classes meet you exactly where you are.
Train in the traditional Gi or No-Gi — develop a complete, well-rounded grappling game.
Hook Grappling is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy in Hook, Hampshire, offering both Gi and No-Gi classes for all levels — from the complete beginner to the advanced player. BJJ emphasises technique and leverage over strength and size, making it suitable for people of all ages and body types. We've recently adopted a constraints-led approach (CLA) to grappling, meaning our students get to play the game of Jiu Jitsu for the whole class and develop real skills in the forever-changing environment that is Jiu Jitsu. Whether you're looking to build mental toughness, fitness, self-defence, or just want a new challenge and a great community, come and train with us. Your first week is free.
A coach who invests in how you learn
At Hook Grappling, our coaches are serious about being the best they can be — so they've joined a community of forward-thinking coaches, led by Greg Souders, who train with the constraints-led approach: a modern, games-based method grounded in motor-learning science. You learn by solving real problems on the mat — and build skill faster.

Head coach and founder. Jack earned his black belt from Yuki Nakai in 2023, training since 2010 and coaching since 2018. He's built Hook Grappling around the constraints-led approach — students play the game of Jiu Jitsu the whole class, developing real skills in a constantly changing environment.
