How we train

The ECO / CLA Method

We're Arizona's academy building its coaching around Ecological Dynamics and the Constraints-Led Approach (CLA) — a modern, game-based way of learning that prepares athletes for real grappling, not just patterns.

01

Game-based learning

Less drilling for the sake of drilling. You solve constrained problems against a live partner, so skill shows up under resistance from day one.

02

Adaptable grapplers

Instead of memorizing fixed sequences that fall apart when a partner does something unexpected, you build instincts that adapt in real time.

03

Dedicated ECO/CLA classes

BJJ 201 — ECO/CLA runs four nights a week (Gi & No-Gi), alongside foundations, all-levels, and invite-only competition training.

About

Why train at Jay Pages Jiu-Jitsu & MMA

Jay Pages Jiu-Jitsu & MMA is one of Arizona's premier martial arts academies, with over 8,500 square feet of mats and equipment in Tempe. We offer programs for men, women, and children across Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, Muay Thai, Judo, Wrestling, and self-defense — with one of the largest mat areas in the state and a track record of producing state, national, and world champions. The academy is led by Professor Jay Pages, a 4th-degree BJJ black belt under 12x World Champion Caio Terra and a retired undefeated professional fighter. We're Arizona's academy building its coaching around Ecological Dynamics and the Constraints-Led Approach (ECO/CLA) — developing adaptable grapplers who can solve problems in real time rather than memorize fixed sequences. We're transparent about pricing and never use sales pressure: members train here because they want to. New students get a two-week free trial.

A coach who invests in how you learn

At Jay Pages Jiu-Jitsu & MMA, our coaches are serious about being the best they can be — so they've joined a community of forward-thinking coaches, led by Greg Souders, who train with the constraints-led approach: a modern, games-based method grounded in motor-learning science. You learn by solving real problems on the mat — and build skill faster.

Jay Pages is hands down the best BJJ gym in the valley. It's a great community and everyone is really there to help you grow! Shout out to the 5 am open mat crew, and all the 6 am class training partners! As one with limited time, I appreciate the schedule so much for how many choices there are!

I can't give this place enough stars. I started BJJ a little over a year ago and I had tried out 4 other gyms before deciding this was where to start my Jiu Jitsu journey. Everyone is welcoming and friendly. The coaching is top tier and it shows through all the athlete and team titles/championships. I can't say enough about Jay and his staff. Whether you are just starting out or a veteran in the game, the Jay Pages family is there to help you reach and surpass your goals.

I love this gym. I started by attending their open mats on Sundays. The rolls and people in attendance were always next level. I've recently attended their women's only, 301 competition and wrestling classes. I really enjoy the teaching style and all the coaches. I feel safe while training there and look forward to continuing my progress at Jay Pages.

Great people, great gym, huge space! Jay's an excellent instructor, and the schedule has a ton of options to accommodate busy professionals. The mats are always clean, there's a ton of mat space available, and there's a gym if you want to get a lift in as well.
