About

Why train at Quantum Jiu-Jitsu

Quantum Jiu-Jitsu is Moncton's home for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. What started as a small class has grown into a vibrant community built on respect, perseverance, and a genuine love of the sport — from first-timers tying on a white belt to competitors chasing black. Led by Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt Alexander MacKinnon and a deep team of black, brown, and colored belts, the academy trains gi and no-gi for kids, teens, and adults. Our core values are simple: keep it fun, keep it safe, build community, and teach what actually works. Whether you're here to get in the best shape of your life, learn real self-defense, or test yourself on the mats, you'll find a welcoming room and coaches who meet you exactly where you are.

A coach who invests in how you learn

At Quantum Jiu-Jitsu, our coaches are serious about being the best they can be — so they've joined a community of forward-thinking coaches, led by Greg Souders, who train with the constraints-led approach: a modern, games-based method grounded in motor-learning science. You learn by solving real problems on the mat — and build skill faster.

Being a woman in a male-driven sport, I can tell you I never felt left behind or unwelcomed. Professor MacKinnon and all the coaches are very knowledgeable, friendly and respectable.

My girlfriend and I dropped in for the Saturday open mat and it was AWESOME! Alex and Adam run a school with an amazing vibe — friendly people, nobody rolling uncontrolled, clean mats. You can tell the school is growing for great reasons.

FAQ

Questions, answered

New to training? Here's everything you need to know before your first class.

Do I need any experience to start?

None at all. Our Fundamentals classes are built for complete beginners, and coaches scale every session so a first-timer and a returning grappler can train side by side. Just show up ready to learn.

Can I try a class before I join?

Yes — book a free trial class and come see the room for yourself. There's no commitment and no pressure; we'll meet you exactly where you are.

What does membership cost?

Adult membership is $115 + tax per month (all classes, unlimited open training, and a free introductory private lesson). Kids & Youth is $85 + tax, and there's an MMA-only option at $50 + tax for two striking classes a week. Family discounts are available.

What should I wear to my first class?

Comfortable athletic clothing is perfect for your first class — you don't need a gi to start. Once you're rolling, we'll point you to the right gear.

What ages do you teach?

Everyone. Kids Jiu-Jitsu starts at age 6, Youth at 11+, and adult classes run morning and evening through the week. As kids grow in age and size we move them up to keep them challenged.

Do you train gi and no-gi?

Both. We run gi and no-gi Fundamentals through the week, plus Sport Jiu-Jitsu (no-gi) for more advanced students, so you'll develop a complete game.
